At Mela Vitamins, we believe that wellness starts with knowledge - and science is a powerful tool when it’s in the hands of someone who truly cares. That’s why we’re honored to introduce Dr. Zeina Alkhalaf, PhD, MPH – our new Head of Clinical Research & Development.
Dr. Zeina brings more than research credentials. She brings heart, purpose, and a commitment to health equity that deeply aligns with our mission. Her work is reshaping how we understand women’s health, especially during the critical reproductive years - and she’s making sure women of color are finally centered in that conversation.
We sat down with Zeina to learn more about her journey, what drives her, and how her personal experiences have shaped the work she’s doing at Mela Vitamins.
What's inside
I’m a reproductive and perinatal epidemiologist, which is just a fancy way of saying I study women’s health - especially between the ages of 20 to 45. These are the years where so much happens: hormone shifts, fertility changes, pregnancy, postpartum... it’s a critical window, and one that is often overlooked when it comes to research and support.
At Mela, I lead our clinical research and product development, making sure every ingredient we use has a purpose, and that our formulas truly serve the women we built this company for. I’m especially focused on nutrients like Vitamin D and how they impact fertility, pregnancy outcomes, and long-term health for women of color.
Honestly, my own story. I was diagnosed with PCOS at 22, struggled with infertility at 24, and went through multiple pregnancy losses. I know what it feels like to search for answers and not feel seen or heard.
That’s what pushed me into research – not just to ask the hard questions, but to find real, evidence-based answers that can improve lives. Too often, women’s voices are sidelined in medicine, and I want to be part of changing that.
Because we’ve been left out of the conversation for too long. So much of women’s health research has been based on men or on white women - and that creates a gap in care for the rest of us.
Women of color face higher rates of serious conditions like heart disease, breast cancer, preeclampsia and gestational diabetes, yet are underrepresented in the very studies that should be protecting them. This is the core of the research I have been working on for the past decade - closing that gap by building wellness products that are scientifically rigorous, culturally informed, and made specifically for the needs of our communities.
Daily Glow was a labor of love. I spent months leading the team in reviewing the latest research, diving into the science of skin, hair, and hormonal health, and carefully selecting ingredients that support melanated skin and textured hair from the inside out.
For example, ingredients like millet seed, bamboo extract, and vitamin D3 were chosen not just for beauty, but for their ability to support deeper health - like cellular repair, hormone balance, and anti-inflammatory effects.
I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created. Daily Glow isn’t just a supplement. It’s a reflection of what happens when you combine rigorous science, deep care, and community-centered design.
You’ll be seeing more of my work across Mela Vitamins – through future product development, research updates, and educational content around topics like nutrition, fertility, and hormonal health.
If you care about science with empathy, you’re in the right place. And if you’ve ever felt overlooked by the wellness industry, know that you are exactly who I do this work for.
The Glow Up Bundle is my favorite Mela product because it brings together everything I’ve worked on for years — closing nutrient gaps, supporting healthy skin and hair for melanated women, and finally offering science-backed care that truly puts us at the center. And who doesn't love a good glow up?
